Kilimanjaro National Park

The word Kilimanjaro, in the local language, means either "Mountain of grandeur" or "Mountain shining".

Either way, both are perfectly suited to Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain in the middle of this 75,575 ha park. One of the largest volcanoes in the world, Kilimanjaro rises to 5,895 meters above sea level and is often called "the roof of Africa".

This dormant volcano is made up of 3 distinct cones: snow-capped Kibo (5895m), Mawenzi (5149m) and Shira (4005m) standing in splendid isolation above the surrounding plains. Its snow-capped peak often rises through a blanket of clouds. The mountain is surrounded by dense forest that is home to many mammals, many of which are endangered.

There are 5 vegetation zones in this park. From the lowest point to the highest point, we find: lower slopes, the forest of Montana, moors, an alpine desert. All these areas are home to abundant flora and fauna. Kilimanjaro is a true natural wonder.
